The only town on the peninsula, Sturgeon Bay retains the charm of a bygone era in its streets. Like many small Wisconsin towns with a pioneer past, Sturgeon Bay is proud to showcase its historic streets and canal front. The canal was dug in 1908 to develop maritime trade. You won't find much cultural life here, but the few museums that are present are quite interesting. The strength of the city is its size. It looks like a capital city when you leave the parks and the desolate forests of the peninsula. However, its population does not exceed ten thousand inhabitants.
