With its 19th century brick buildings, this small port town carefully cultivates its Old Scotland style. It must be said that its inhabitants are almost all originally from Scotland. The atmosphere is friendly, the streets have a lot of charm and the inhabitants are welcoming. The stores are full of Scottish articles (kilts, woollens, scarves, music), the pubs are numerous. It was in 1773 that the schooner Hector landed in Pictou with its first Scottish settlers. Near the marina, the Hector Heritage Quay is a small museum dedicated to the history of this Scottish schooner. At the back of the building is an exact replica of the Hector.
