Located in the Appalachians, at the confluence of the Saint John and Madawaska Rivers, Edmundston is a stone's throw from the American border and a few kilometers from the border with Quebec. It is thesecond largest city with a French-speaking majority in Canada (outside Quebec). The French-speaking inhabitants of Madawaska County are called "Brayons". Edmunston is the gateway to the Maritimes from Rivière-du-Loup (Quebec). People come to Edmunston for its natural playground, its superb botanical garden and its traditional cuisine (you must try the ployes, buckwheat pancakes filled with butter, sugar or cretons).
