Created in 1956, the present-day Nyanga Reserve (North) covers 7,700 hectares and is part of a larger area extending into the Nyanga region of Gabon. Bordered by the N3 road leading to Gabon, the reserve is hilly in its northern part as far as the Nyanga, and rises gradually towards the west in the extension of the Mount Fouari chain. Its vegetation is essentially savannah with a light shrub layer and gallery forests. No inventory of its fauna has yet been carried out, but the presence of mammals such as buffalo, elephant, reedbuck, reedbuck and hippopotamus has been attested.
