Located between 3,200 and 3,800 meters above sea level, this reserve was created to preserve the vicuña, which was on the verge of disappearing a few years ago. Among the unmissable sites are the Arintoca, Puquintica and Acotango volcanoes. The reserve presents a vegetation where we can distinguish two types of meadows: a dry one, with the paja brava, and another more humid one (the bofedales), which are crossed by small torrents where the vicuñas come to quench their thirst. The town of Guallatire is worth a visit with its church of the Inmaculada Concepción. In front of the town is the volcano of the same name, the only active one in the region.
