The small village of Sajama, at an altitude of 4,350 meters, is the starting point for all excursions in the surrounding area. One of the most popular tours is the one leading to the high lagoons which is located at the border between Sajama National Park and Lauca National Park on the Chilean side. This trek lasts one day and does not require any technical ascent or specific equipment. The Wisalla summit (5031 m) offers a phenomenal view of the Nevado Sajama. The ascent of the Sajama stratovolcano takes 2 to 3 days if the weather conditions are favorable. The best time to climb the surrounding peaks is between July and September.
