Some 8 km south-west of Chaca with its wooden houses and colourful boats, the town is picturesque, but its real stars are the birds: a true ecological sanctuary, the bay of Caulin is home to more than 60 species, including a colony of 1,500 black-necked swans. There are also herons, flamingos and zarapitos with long, slender beaks. In January, a festival in their honour is even organised. Another gourmet speciality: when the sea retreats, an infinite quantity of seafood swarms on the beach. The villagers then rush to collect the ingredients for their typical cutanto.
