This small town of about 60,000 inhabitants is an important place of pilgrimage for the Sikh community. The town was named after Fateh Singh who was buried alive by the Mughals. In 1705, the Islamo-Sikh war raged in the region. The army seized the two sons of the guru, aged 7 and 9. They refused to convert to Islam and were buried alive by Wazir Khan. Today, a gurdwara has been erected at the place where they were buried. There is no accommodation or restaurants in Fategarh Sahib, except at the gurdwara. The pilgrimage takes place between December 25 and 27 and attracts many Sikhs.
