Although not very popular with tourists, Rabat is a great place to live! The capital and political center of the country, Rabat is appreciated by locals for its provincial atmosphere. As Morocco's greenest city, Rabat has made a real effort to increase its tree-covered areas. And it shows! From the Almohad era, the city's superb ochre walls are a majestic sight. Rabat is a city you won't forget, where you can step back in time, an imperial and now royal city. And yet Rabat retains an endearing simplicity. Numerous urbanization projects have been launched, notably on the Oued Bouregreg estuary, where the marina is now a unique attraction. In June 2012, the city was classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site for its efforts and determination to make its urbanization respectful of its architectural treasures such as the Kasbah des Oudayas, the Chellah necropolis... October 2014 saw the inauguration of the Mohamed VI Museum, a superb contemporary art museum that makes the city all the more culturally attractive. In July 2016, the capital of the Cherifian kingdom inaugurated one of the country's finest structures, a 950-meter-long cable-stayed bridge with six lanes, three in each direction, making it the longest on the African continent. This section of freeway, 100 metres above ground level, bypasses the city and relieves traffic congestion.
