At 2 km from Ourbnissi in the direction of Kareli Khachouri stands on the right side of the road the small village of Rouissi. There is a sign announcing the convent and the cathedral of the Divinity, which is in the heart of the village, some 500 m from the road. This church is a superb edifice from the 8th and 9th centuries, surrounded by walls. It is one of the most beautiful churches of this period. Its exterior facades are beautifully carved. One enters the site through a monumental brick gate dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The history of this church reflects the particularly turbulent medieval past of Georgia. Destroyed in the 10th century, the church was rebuilt in the following century, and then badly damaged by the Mongolian armies before being rebuilt in the 15th century. An earthquake destroyed the site again, which was restored once and for all in the 1950s. If you only have to choose one, Rouissi Cathedral is undoubtedly more beautiful than the church of Ourbnissi. If you are not motorized, walking will probably be the best way to get from one church to the other, unless you find a local marchroutka to cover those 2 km.
