Located some 50 km north of Bafoussam, on the road to Bamenda, Mbouda is a street town with several service stations where you can fill up before continuing your journey. Mbouda's architecture is a mixture, not always very successful, of traditional houses and modern buildings. The market is located on the outskirts of town, just before the police checkpoint for vehicles heading to Bamenda. You can stop off in Mbouda for a night in one of the town's few hotels, which offer decent comfort and classic services at very reasonable rates. It's a peaceful town where you can find the main services before moving on to the surrounding natural sites.Thearea around Mbouda boasts a number of points of interest: the chiefdoms of Babadjou (where there is also a hot spring and the Ngoo Bamenyam stone), Batcham and Bamendjing, the Ndovou caves where the region's inhabitants used to take refuge during tribal wars, the Mantube waterfalls and, of course, the Bamboutos mountains and their magnificent scenery. After Mbouda , on the winding, tree-lined (but well-maintained) road to Bamenda, comes the village of Santa (already in the North-West province), where a large fruit and vegetable market, well known in the region, is held every Thursday morning. It also sells raffia wine.
