Sokolac is a village and a fortified town, 3 km south of Bihać, on a hill and on the left bank of La Una. Here, since the Middle Ages, men have protected themselves. The first written documents about its existence date back to 1395. It talks about Sokolac as a royal city. In the first half of the 50 th century, King Bondsmen gives the town the Frankopan family, which will reign years on this fortress. For in 1537, descriptions speak of a round tower with three summits and numerous reserves of arms and ammunition in this building, which was already inaccessible. The fortress was conquered in 1592 by the Ottomans at the same time as Bihać. From the town centre of Bihać, take the 5 Korpuša street by leaving the Park Hotel on your left then turn left 501 Slavne Brigade and follow the direction of Golubić. At the exit of Bihać, turn right into Sokolac.Fortress. Just after crossing the tower, you enter a triangular courtyard. From here you can see the arsenal and the dealers that are in the tower. The walls surrounding the city follow the edge of the hilltop of the hill. The south tower is surrounded by walls, creating an inner courtyard. In the middle, a well that served during battles. In front of the tower, a wooden drawbridge gave access. It no longer exists. Sokolac is one of the few fortified cities that really fulfilled its functions by suffering frequent assaults because it was the key to the defence of Bihać in the south.
