On the edge of the United Arab Emirates, Shinas resembles these bustling border towns. An important port was built there by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries with the aim of modernizing the industry. Dhows are still in operation there, supplying fresh fish to the cities of the neighbouring emirates and even to restaurants in Dubai. Somewhat set back from the beach is a restored fort that is well worth a visit. Beware, when crossing the border of the United Arab Emirates, tourists lose their Omani visa, which will have to be redone (and therefore refunded) on their return, unless they are in possession of a multiple-entry visa.
