150 kilometers east of Dubai, Hatta is the result of nomadic travel in the past. It's a great place to get away from it all. The Al Hajjar mountain (Arabic for Rock) is a continuation of the Zagros mountain in Iran, the result of tectonic movements 145 million years ago. Composed of limestone and ophiolite, visitors are impressed by the beauty of the landscape. The presence of a natural spring and the coolness of the foothills of the Al Hajjar mountain range led the Al Maktoum family to settle here in the late 19th century. A traditional irrigation system (falaj) provided water for the palm groves and the village.
