The oldest pastry shop in the city. We go for the atmosphere, hot chocolate or their many cakes.
Founded in 1829, it is one of the oldest pastelarias in Baixa, managed by the same family, that of Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro, for five generations. This institution has retained the charm of an old-fashioned tea room. The decor enchants us, all in white lacquered curves, frescos and painted ceilings! Memorable hot chocolate... And then, what a multitude of excellent pastries and delicate biscuits. Not to mention the real Bolo Rei, whose recipe was imported from Paris by Baltazar Castanheiro Júnior at the end of the 19th century.

We have to lunch: the daily specials are excellent and cheap: 10€.Service less pleasant, but there are many people, especially of Portuguese elsewhere. A good address.
