In a beautiful historic building near the Sé cathedral at the entrance to Alfama, fado guitarist, composer and performer Mario Pacheco (former travelling companion of diva Amália Rodrigues) has set up this emblematic fado house, headquarters for all the fadistas who have made a name for themselves in Lisbon. Every evening, under the stone vaults, renowned artists take it in turns to perform a few pieces of this melancholy Portuguese music, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011.
