Here is the amazing capital of the former Kwazulu Bantustan with its National Assembly built at great expense in 1984, not to mention its university. The town of Ulundi with its 45,000 inhabitants stands in a vast red and grey plain which soon undulates into hills. In 1873, Cetshwayo established its capital here. In July 1879, the British troops commanded by Lord Chelmsford won the battle against 20,000 Zulu warriors. The affront of Isandhlawana was washed away. If you turn right before crossing the railway line, in the direction of the airport, you will reach Ondini, the Cetshwayo kraal.
