Founded in 1867, the town was the main port for the entire southern KwaZulu-Natal region. Situated at the mouth of the Mzimkulua River, the small seaside resort of Port Shepstone has a population of about 10,000. An hour and a half's drive from Durban, it has naturally become a resort for Durban's affluent class, who like to find peace and quiet here. Perhaps also more pleasant beaches: less crowded and wilder. Thus, many beautiful guest houses have sprung up, many of them offering beautiful views of the sea where it is good to stop
