Thabazimbi, the "iron mountain", owes its name to the surrounding quarries, where one of the largest iron ore deposits in the world is mined. It is not possible to use a compass to find your way around: the magnetic fields are too strong. The city is almost never visited by tourists, it is mainly a crossing point to Botswana. So dare to go to the Great North! You won't regret this escape to the north, through immense savannahs. After Thabazimbi, take Vaalwater, Marken, Tolwe and reach Alldays. The presence of the first baobabs indicates that you are approaching the river, not far from the most generous diamond mine in the country.
