Tswaing Crater is located a little more than thirty kilometres northwest of Pretoria. In the heart of a vast landscape completely empty of infrastructures, we can see a body of water. Far from being a simple giant puddle, we are here facing a meteorite crater of exactly 1.13 km in diameter. Called the Tswaing crater, its name would mean "the place of salt" in the Tswana language. It is difficult to estimate the exact age of this gigantic cavity dug on South African soil less than an hour from its capital. It is thought that the chasm was created by a meteorite impact 52,000 to 220,000 years ago
