Is it a mirage, a child's dream, a billionaire's whim? Or is it the work of some modern-day pharaoh? Simply a folly signed by Sol Kerzner, the CEO of the Sun International hotel chain in 1978, when the white power had just created a Bantustan for the Tswana a few kilometers away. The Sun City Hotel, Gary Player Golf Course and Waterworld were opened at the same time as the adjacent Pilanesberg Park. The Cabanas Hotel was added in 1980, the Cascades Hotel and Rainforest in 1984 and Lost City in 1992.
