Located 80 km northwest of Hanoi, in the province of Vinh Phuc, this mountain range, whose Phu Nghia peak rises to 1,591 m, was first explored by the French in 1904. In 1907, the first villa was built on this peak, a site called Ngan Toan (Silver Waterfall), which soon became a spa with renowned waters and a favorite vacation spot for wealthy city dwellers from Hanoi and Haiphong. After 1954, the resort was destroyed. The Tam Dao hills are home to several mountain ethnic groups and particularly wild landscapes. The flora and fauna in the forests are as impressive as they are precious.
