Its castle has a charming name, Castle of the Sad Countess, because Juana Pimentel retired there to mourn her late husband, Alvaro de Luna. It dates from the early 15th century. Cross the river Arenal on its medieval bridge. In this village of more than 6,600 inhabitants you will also see the Virgen del Pilar church (14th and 15th centuries) and the palace of the infantryman Luis Antonio de Bourbón. 4 km away, the San Pedro de Alcantara Monastery, which dates back to the 16th century, preserves the memory of the saint and a fine collection of liturgical goldsmith's art. Discovered in 1963, the famous Cuevas del Águila caves are only six kilometres away.
