19 km south of Salamanca, this village of more than 5,200 inhabitants allows you to visit ceramic workshops and bring back a botijo (jug). The Benedictine nuns of the Santa María de las Dueñas monastery make miniature paintings on parchment or leather. They also sell pastries and sweets. The church of San Juan, located in a corner of the Plaza Mayor, is a good example of Mudéjar Romanesque art. At the top of the town, the tower is all that remains of the castle of the Dukes of Alba built in the 15th century. The armour room contains magnificent Renaissance murals depicting the Battle of Mühlberg
