Médenine occupies a central position in southeastern Tunisia as it is located 35 km west of Beni Kheddache, 75 km south of Gabès, and about 50 km north of Tataouine. With its 70,000 inhabitants, it is an administrative center and has a nice fruit and vegetable market. Until the end of the 1950s, Medenine was the largest group of ksour united in a gigantic collective granary with more than 6,000 ghorfas (granaries with provisions of semi-cylindrical shape). The first ghorfas in Medenine date from the 17th century. Unfortunately, most of them have been destroyed, and only a few remain
