Travel Guide El May

El May, whose name is that of a Berber tribe called " laméïa" , is located in the center of the island, cut by a road that leads from Houmt Souk to El Kantara. This small village deserves a visit for its atmosphere and its beautiful Ottoman mosque Oum Turquia (The Turkish mother) with round-roofed minaret and whitewashed walls. Modest and sober, almost without opening, this mosque is probably one of the prettiest of the island and is often photographed. Since its construction (16th century), it has not undergone any modification. In a small narrow street 300 meters from the mosque, you will find the small market.
