At 35 km from Sfax. The city center is pleasant, with its mosque, its city hall and its cafes. A central street and sculptures line the sea. To the north, the beach of Es Chaffar is frequented on weekends by Sfaxians. It can be reached from the village of Nakta. In summer, the city sees its population triple thanks to the return of Tunisians from abroad. The history of Mahrès goes back to the era of the Aghlabides, the most important monument was destroyed in the early 1960s, it is the Majel which collected rainwater. In the south of the city remains the Roman fort Younga of Sidi Ahmed around which once existed important mosaics.
