Located 5 km north of Jendouba. If it is one of the four most important Roman sites of Tunisia, the origins of Bulla Regia would be Berber. Evidence of an ancient occupation is scattered around the site: megalithic necropolis, tombs with wells and neo-punic steles. A royal Numidian city from the 3rd century B.C., Bulla Regia was then occupied by the Romans, to whom the agricultural wealth of the Medjerda valley had not escaped, for nearly four centuries, before becoming Byzantine. It was inhabited until the Middle Ages, then abandoned. Recent excavations have brought to light the superb Roman buildings.
