A golden spot appears in the axis of the road. Little by little, it imposes itself, grows, captures the attention and blocks the way by standing as a rampart. The coliseum of El Jem, a majestic monument to take your breath away in the Tunisian countryside, sits in the middle of the Arab city, a mosaic of low houses. It is the third largest Roman coliseum after that of Rome and Capua. Dominating the city of its 36 m high, invading its 427 m of perimeter, this coliseum of 30 000 places is more remarkable by its conception than by its beauty. The order of the stones is still so beautiful, so proud, that one does not dare to speak about ruins.
