20 km north of Dunaföldvár (via Route 6) and 70 km from Budapest. This "new city of the Danube" is a real monument to the Stalinist economy. It was founded in the s, around large steel plants considered then by the Party as one of the pillars of the industrialization strategy. The construction of Sztálinváros (original name of the city) in the 1950 s was presented as a industries exploit, although most of the work was carried out by peasants and prostitutes "converted", living in appalling conditions. Strangely enough, the city was at the same time hoping for a better future for the working class. This paradox continues today because this archetype of the planned economy has made it much easier for capitalism than in more traditional industrial cities. It also became (on its scale) a university city. Dunaújváros's interest, relatively limited, lies mainly in its Bauhaus and socialist-realistic aesthetics (see, in particular, rue Majus 1, dating from 1950). A reservation to the amateurs. That said, the surroundings of Dunaújváros (especially Rácalmás) are green to wish.
