Tilarán is a charming little town located between the Pan-American Highway and Lake Arenal. Still in an agricultural area, the hills are covered with cows. The contrast is striking with the vegetation that one observes closer to the sea. It is also an important area for the production of coffee, macadamia nuts, and peanuts, as well as for horse breeding. After Tilarán, we start to see the placid waters of the Laguna Arenal dominated by the dark volcano. The town is not very interesting, but it is a good base to go to the Tenorio Volcano National Park or the lagoon
