With a population of approximately 135,000, Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory and is located on the tip of a peninsula, bordering the Timor Sea. Darwin is an ideal base for trips to the Top End tourist attractions: the natural wonders of Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park and the Katherine region. Darwin has always been a multicultural city, with multiple influences, especially Asian: Jakarta is closer to Darwin than Canberra! It is the home of the Larrakia Aboriginal people, who now play an important role in the development of the city, and also a key center for the Aboriginal people of the entire Top End. A constant stream of travelers from Asia, tourists and young backpackers touring Australia are part of the daily landscape of the city. Many of the Top End's residents, with their love of fishing, beer, the great outdoors and the freedom they cherish, will remind you somewhat of Crocodile Dundee. All of this gives the Top End and the NT a reputation for being a bit wild.
