Situated 110 km from Darwin, Adelaide River is a small town on the Stuart Highway, named for the river that runs through it, which is also the river where theJumping Crocodile Cruises take place, much further north on the Arnhem Highway. Adelaide River was of major importance during the Second World War, with a military hospital and Allied headquarters, while the surrounding farms provided supplies for the troops. Long before that, Adelaide River was also an important staging post for the telegraph, the railway and for gold miners.
