110 km north of Townsville, Ingham is nicknamed the "Little Italy" of Queensland. Indeed, Italians have been growing sugar cane here for over 100 years! Italian settlers arrived in the 1920s and started the sugar cane industry, and today, after several generations, they still own one of the largest sugar factories in Australia. Today, more than half of Ingham's population is of Italian descent and the Australian-Italian Festival, held in August, attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy the wine, food, music and overall Italian culture.
