Magnetic Island, some ten kilometers long, is a 20-minute ferry ride from Townsville. Sealink and Magnetic Island Ferries are the 2 companies serving the island, the former for pedestrians only and the latter also for motorized vehicles. Two-thirds of the island is protected by a national park, and there are plenty of hiking opportunities, including The Forts Walk, where you might even spot koalas! The Magnetic Island bus is a convenient and economical way of getting to different parts of the island.
