Maryborough was founded in 1847 and is one of the oldest towns in Queensland. Maryborough is known for its beautiful colonial houses and for retaining its historic heritage, giving it a lot of character and an air of the past. You can enjoy a free guided tour of the town with a guide in period costume through the tourist office, stroll through the pretty market that sets up every Tuesday, learn more about Australia's colonial past with a visit to the museums or taste rum from the 1860s at the Bond Store. Finally, in July, the city celebrates the Mary Poppins Festival.
