Welcome to Lemnos! The capital of the island (5,000 inhabitants) lies between the port and the bay of Romeikos Yalos. You can't miss the impressive Byzantine fortress (12th century) with its imposing walls and its vestiges of various periods. Started by Emperor Andronic I Comnenus, it was reinforced by the Venetians and their successors. It is difficult not to be charmed by its old neoclassical residences, buildings and other Ottoman fountains. You will lose yourself without regret in the main shopping street, parallel to the port, in the shade of a pleasant arbour. The long waterfront is dotted with numerous restaurants and traditional taverns. Myrina gives access to the northwestern half of Lemnos and its natural and heritage sites, including the amazing open-air chapel, Panagia Kakaviotissa, nestled in the heart of a mountain cave, and the geological sites of Ammothines and Faraklo.
