A modern city of 9,000 souls and Balkan-style houses, built in amphitheatre style on a rocky hill, it is located in the plain, on the edge of a karstic plateau pierced by caves. Crossed by the red river, the Erythropotamos, its foundation dates back to the 8th century. It is the seat of the oldest mosque in Europe, built in 1368. Here you can visit the medieval fortress, the ruins of Plotinopoli near the hill called St. Peter's, where the remains of a Roman cemetery have been discovered, and also the Turkish baths on the right bank of the Red River, which served as a meeting place for lovers, hence their nickname of "baths of love".
