Exhibition gallery dedicated to photojournalism and war photography, where the museography highlights the work of reporters.
Inaugurated in 2003 by New Zealand photographer Wade Goddard, the War Photo Limited museum is located in the heart of the city, in one of the alleyways off the Stradun. This two-storey exhibition space, dedicated entirely to photojournalism and war reporting, showcases the artistic work of international photographers and their coverage of various armed conflicts. The museography focuses on the viewpoints of these professional photographers, who have provided poignant testimony to the global conflicts of recent decades. Installed on the second floor and renewed two or three times a year, the temporary exhibitions have shown series taken in the Gaza Strip, during the confrontations in Iran and Iraq, in Lebanon, during the war in Syria and the migratory crisis it provoked on the "Balkan route", in Africa and in Ukraine.
On the second floor, the permanent exhibition focuses on the wars in Yugoslavia (1991-2001), with a number of shots illustrating the siege of Dubrovnik or the destruction of certain Croatian towns. Highlights include photographs by Ron Haviv, Alexandra Boulat, Emmanuel Ortiz and Paul Lowe. As mentioned by the curators, the aim of this exhibition is to explain what happened in the city and to show the absurdity of war, without following any political agenda. A must-see, as much for its culture as for the emotions it provokes (sensitive souls, be prepared for a few tears).

War Photo Limited's intention is to educate the public in the field of war photography, to expose the myth of war and the intoxication of war, to allow people to see war for what it is, raw, venal, frightening, focusing on how war inflicts injustice on the innocent as well as the combatants.
War Photo Limited sees itself as an educational medium. It will be available to schools, universities, and other educational organizations. We will strive to educate young people about the disease of war, particularly the intolerance, violence and nationalistic ideals that lead to conflict.
War Photo Limited does not have a political agenda. However, we do exhibit work that we feel is appropriate to the specific field of war and conflict photography, work that may at times be disturbing to some.
Our exhibitions are by world-renowned photojournalists who are able to present their photographs in the way they feel their work should be seen. We are a gathering point for modern war and conflict photography.

Permanent exhibition on the Balkan wars
The museum has a permanent collection dedicated to the conflicts in former Yugoslavia (1991-1999), with powerful images from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, and a special focus on the siege of Dubrovnik.
In addition to the permanent collection, there are temporary exhibitions (two or three a year) showing recent reports from conflict zones around the world: Syria, migration via the 'Balkan route', the Middle East, etc.
The organisation seeks to show war "as it is" - raw, often shocking - not to glorify or to follow a political agenda, but to raise awareness and educate, especially young people, about injustice, intolerance and nationalism.

Un bon rappel
However, all the photos are an excellent reminder why humanity should have learned by now that war only has loosers. (Any) gains should have been discussed around the table, lives saved. Some of the photos are the hard, true cliches of what war in a prosperous town shouldn't be.
I left humbled. Saddened by what saw, glad that things, in western Europe at least, stable. Wishing stability will return ASAP to the people of Ukraine ????????.
