On one of Karlova's main shopping streets, Anna Edasi welcomes the thirsty and hungry passing through the neighborhood. Anna is in fact the great-grandmother of Birjo Urbas, the owner, and it's true that inside, you'll feel a bit like you're in grandma's house, with its old furniture, floral curtains and tablecloths, and rose-patterned china. You can satisfy your hunger with a soup, omelette, salad or pastry, and it's all homemade! Or stop in for a coffee or lemonade in a relaxing atmosphere.

WERNER CAFÉ

Coffee shop and tea room

Just across the street from the university's main building, this charming café is as much a meeting place for students cramming away on their laptops as it is for old professors in tweed preparing their lectures. People come here for breakfast and dinner, to invigorate themselves in the morning with a cup of coffee, gulp down a good soup at lunchtime, have a drink after class, but where the Werner really shines is in its pastries, whose presentation will make even the least greedy drool, but be warned - as is often the case in the Baltic countries, they're a tad too sweet.
