A bit like Nessebar and Sozopol, the small town of Ahtopol is built on a peninsula overlooking the sea. This strategic position had interested the Greeks who installed a colony to make trade. Today, this very modest seaside resort remains pleasant with its small beaches and its pretty fishing port. At the foot of the Strandzha mountains and 4 km from the estuary of the river Veleka, Ahtopol is a very good base for nature excursions and especially for bird watching. This site has the mildest climate of the entire Bulgarian coast. Therefore, the number of visitors is increasing in the summer.
