Mass tourism has not yet hit the Taian thermal area, south-east of Miaoli. However, the area is beautiful, and in addition to the thermal activities, there are many treks in the surrounding mountains. In recent years, the local authorities have become aware of Taian's huge tourist potential, and some infrastructure already exists, but for the time being it remains a quiet place compared to other renowned spa regions. Trails are open to the public every year, and Taian is expected to quickly become one of Taiwan's trekking hotspots.
