Tagbilaran, which means "hidden shelter" in Visayan dialect, is not a quiet, wise little town - as its name might suggest - but a lively, noisy conurbation. We won't stay here, however, as there's not much to do. Tagbilaran is, however, the main gateway to the wonderful island of Bohol, and is a good place to take the pulse of local life before heading off to Panglao, where most of the accommodation is located, or to explore the island's interior, towards the waterfalls and the charming village of Baclayon.
