Housed in a stately, verdant mountain, the Nineveh Libya museum is located 45 km west of the city of Al-Bayda. We train his car at the entrance to the site, near a long monument dedicated to the fighters of the fallen region in the fight against Italians. The museum presents the most beautiful collection of Byzantine mosaics in Libya, whose colours are particularly bright. They were discovered in perfect condition in 1957 during surveys for the installation of hydraulic dams in the vicinity, and then released by American Richard Goodchild. As noted by the latter, beyond their great beauty and diversity, these mosaics have considerable historical interest. Indeed, the fact that a small village was able to have so rich ornamentation somewhat undermined the poverty of the countryside of Cyrenaica in Byzantine times. On the contrary, the agricultural wealth of the land made successful campaigns, as also apparent from the splendid churches of Ras el-Hilal and El-Athrun.
