Another wonder of the region, Bonito has been a major ecotourism site since the late 1980s, a mecca for river diving. 257 km southwest of Campo Grande, this small town owes its popularity to its hydrological wonders in a superb natural environment where the probability of encountering monkeys, macaws, toucans or anteaters is quite high. Its closest (20 km) and main attraction is the famous "blue lagoon"(lago azul ), formed in a 50 million year old cave, 180 m deep and 110 m wide. Due to a phenomenon caused by the crystals that line the bottom of the cave, the water is an extraordinary blue, which contrasts with the white of the stalactites and the green of the vegetation. There are also hundreds of caves and rivers with clear water, which sometimes widen into lakes where you can swim with mask and snorkel, surrounded by robust and peaceful dourados with sharp teeth. It is like being in a fabulous life-size aquarium. The waters of the Rio Sucuri, like those of Baia Bonita, would be the clearest in the world! You can go rafting in the rapids of the Mimoso river and swim in the natural pools of the Aquidaban river. This region, ideally located between the Pantanal and the Iguaçu Falls, two major sites of Brazilian ecotourism, certainly offers the most beautiful possibilities of activities that can be practiced in a family setting. The small town of Bonito offers a wide range of pousadas, hotels, restaurants and is thus an ideal base for day trips
