The twin town of Gramado, Canela is less touristy, but also attracts visitors. The name of the town comes from a tree, called Canela, then located not far from where the central square of the town is today, the Praça João Corrêa, this cane tree served as a meeting point and hostel for the soldiers. Today, the small gaucha town is mainly the starting point for excursions and outdoor sports activities outside the city. Some pousadas offer packages where transportation is included, making stays less expensive than with the systematic use of taxis
