This park is one of the places that one must visit in gaucho country. Its main attraction is the Itaimbézinho canyon, a formidable 600 m deep gash that zigzags for nearly 6 km. From these steep cliffs, from which a few waterfalls rise, one can only see a dark gorge. On the plateaus, on both sides of this gash, forests of araucarias, whose slender forms stand out in the sun, or, in cloudy weather, catch the clouds as they pass. These landscapes show the transition between the tropical climate that covers most of the country and the subtropical climate.
