Torres is a Brazilian municipality located in the extreme north of the Atlantic coast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The city's landscape is distinguished by the fact that it is the only beach in Rio Grande do Sul where rocky cliffs overlook the sea, and by the presence of the only maritime island in the state, Ilha dos Lobos.The area where the city is located today has been inhabited by man for thousands of years, with archaeological evidence in the form of sambaquis (shell mounds typical of this archaeological period). Today it is a small, quiet town that receives more than 400,000 tourists per year.
