Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera (abbreviated to Santa Gertrudis), a small village built around an18th-century church, lies in the middle of countryside and hills. To get there from Eivissa, simply follow the road signposted Sant Miquel/Santa Gertrudis from the Santa Eularia road. Just before arriving in Santa Gertrudis, you'll pass the Galería Es Molí, a typical old house housing a collection of paintings by painters from all over the world who frequented or still live on the island. In days gone by, the locals would gather after mass for a drink and a few bocadillos de pa amb oli in the village's small bars, including the famous Costa bar, nestled under the arches of an old mansion on the main pedestrian street. Since then, the village has pleasantly evolved, while remaining lively and friendly. Habits remain the same, and it's around the church of Santa Gertrudis and its pretty square that the village's social life is organized. In summer, around 10pm, the bars are packed with a motley crew enjoying a meal in a popular atmosphere. This is one of the prettiest villages in Ibiza; if you want to experience the real Ibiza, the authentic one, this is the place to come, and you won't be disappointed. Perhaps one of the most beautiful villages in the island's interior, it's surrounded by a superb rural setting that continues to attract new residents who love the simple life.
