Unlike the town of the same name, Lake Naivasha is worth a visit. Located at an altitude of 1,884 meters on the highlands, with a surface area of 173 km², Lake Naivasha, whose water level has varied continuously over the centuries, is one of the only freshwater lakes (with Lake Baringo) in the Rift Valley. This water allows the irrigation of the fertile soils that border the lake, favoring the development of an agriculture specialized in fruits (notably the vine that produces the only wine of the country), vegetables (beans) and above all, flowers. The traveler who comes here is mainly attracted by the incredible ornithological wealth. Less spectacular than its neighbors Nakuru, Bogoria or Baringo, Lake Naivasha offers some beautiful walks that can be done in a day from Nairobi and places to stay with unique atmospheres. Most of the accommodations are on the southern shore of the lake, about 20 kilometers south of the town of Naivasha. Beware of the squads of mosquitoes in the evening when temperatures are hottest. Also beware of hippos venturing onto the shores of the lake at night. This placid-looking, territorial animal can be formidable. If it feels threatened, it can attack with its 30 cm long canines and run up to 48 km/h
